Nerac

Nerac is a lovely medieval town, steeped in history and centred on Henri IV’s chateau, with many restaurants and a wide range of shops. Set on the river Baise, boat trips and boat-hire are possible or you can join the locals in a leisurely stroll along the river bank in the large park, known as the king’s gardens. Here amongst the many springs you can discover the statue of Fleurette and the story of her unrequited love of the young Henri.
The surrounding countryside is rolling and fertile, full of sunflowers and vineyards, and is dotted with old bastide villages. Vianne, just a few kilometers from Nerac is a very fine example of these, and is also well-known for its crafts, particularly glass-blowing.
Agen, the nearest large town and famous for its prunes, is a 20 minute drive away and has all the amenities you could want including a fine museum, cathedral and amusement park.
